In response to Covid-19, BEST, our volunteers and community at large have proposed to propagate and distribute their home grown seedlings, saved seeds, cuttings and whatever excess gardening products to those who can grow in pots or gardens. Please save your seeds for the next growing season and give some to your neighbour .
We will provide FREE seedlings, seeds, fruit cuttings and accompanying growing medium plus online support to those who can adopt the seedlings with the aim of saving some seeds for our community seedbank. Let's work towards being SELF-SUFFICIENT!
Keep Sowing & Saving Seeds (02/06/2020)
BEST Volunteers (2018)
The youth will play a crucial role in the initial phase by providing (through selling) a regular supply of home grown seedlings to other residents and the community through the project, Home Grown Organics (HGO). Local residents will drive this campaign through friendly competitions, social events and campaigns on organic farming and environmental issues to encourage knowledge exchange and community engagement. BEST will provide support through resources and information to our members.
Before & After sowing seeds (10 days later) 16/05/20 - 29/05/20
If you have a garden or space to grow your own food in pots then consider yourself lucky and make the most of it now!! There's no better time than now to start sowing seeds, planting crops, transplanting, and preparing your planting schedule for the spring - Winter. Food shortage is inevitable in the coming months, so please grow and save your seeds.
Permaculture Allotment Project (PermAllotment)
Volunteers / gardeners will be recruited and trained at the community garden through the Permaculture Allotment Project (PermAllotment) - Community Supported Agriculture. After completing the training, the coordinators will train other volunteers at our weekly activity sessions. All are welcome. We can help you establish a community garden if you have some green space to spare or an allotment.
All welcome, please register online to book your space.
A community permaculture initiative by Barnet Environment Support Team (BEST) that enables residents without access to growing space to grow their own produce among other like-minded growers, exchange knowledge and share the harvest on a regular basis. *Groups of 4-5 will have a chance to adopt & decide what to grow on their allocated raised bed / growing space. Each group will be supplied with seeds / seedlings, ongoing support & training, shared tools / resources throughout their growing cycle, which will be free for all registered members.
